This two-story maisonette-style accommodation includes an open-concept living room with a high ceiling on the first floor, a kitchen, and a slightly elevated tatami room. The second floor houses the bedroom. The spacious wooden deck, overlooking a garden, boasts an outdoor bath, a sauna, and a 10-meter-long pool. During the winter, the pool temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius. While not a heated pool, this makes it an ideal temperature for cooling off after a sauna session.

The Hermitage House

Originally constructed as a tea room, this building was left unused after the 2004 Chuetsu Earthquake caused the ground beneath it to shift. Featuring impressive zelkova wood beams—prized and difficult to obtain today—and a solid, snow-resistant design typical of this region, the structure itself remained sound. It has now been carefully relocated and revived as a private villa available for exclusive rental. By moving the building, sunlight now reaches the surrounding forest, promoting ecological restoration in the area.

Nestled in lush greenery, this villa offers a serene retreat with a private garden for guests to enjoy quiet moments in nature. Inside, the spacious living room opens to views of the verdant landscape, and there’s a tea room-inspired space with a traditional “nijiriguchi” (a low entrance), inviting guests to relax in harmony with nature.
Pets are welcome in this room.
