Access

ryugon is located among the mountain scenery of Minami Uonuma in Niigata Prefecture, an area well-known for the production of Uonuma Koshihikari rice. It is an hour and thirty minutes by bullet train from Tokyo to Echigo-Yuzawa Station, and from there a 30 minute shuttle bus ride from HATAGO Isen which is directly across from the station.

For those coming from Tokyo by train

From the Tokyo area take the Joetsu Bullet train (towards Niigata) and get off at Echigo-Yuzawa Station
From Echigo-Yuzawa Station take the Joetsu Line or Hokuetsu Hoku Line to Muikamachi Station
From Muikamachi Station it is a 6 minute (1.5km) taxi ride.

For those comining from Tokyo by car

From the Nerima Interchange on the Kanetsu Expressway head towards Niigata
It is 10km from the Shiozawa Interchange, or 3km from the Muikamachi Interchange.

For those coming from overseas

Head from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station.
From Tokyo take the Joetsu Bullet train (towards Niigata) and get off at Echigo-Yuzawa Station
From Echigo-Yuzawa Station take the Joetsu Line or Hokuetsu Hoku Line to Muikamachi Station
From Muikamachi Station it is a 6 minute (1.5km) taxi ride.

There is a also a convenient scheduled shuttle bus from Echigo Yuzawa Station.

From the West Exit of Echigo-Yuzawa Station you can find Echigo Yuzawa HATAGO Isen from where there is a free shuttle bus. Reservations need to be made in advance.

A journey to learn the history and culture of Niigata and Sado which prospered when the Kitamae-bune cargo ships sailed the Sea of Japan.

A lot of history still remains from the times when Sado and Niigata were ports of call for the Kitamae-bune which were important for maritime distribution before the war. Both places prospered and exchanged ideas.
